What is molar mass and molecular mass?

The molar mass (symbol M) of a given substance is a physical property defined as its mass per unit amount of substance. Its SI unit of measurement is kilogram per mole (kg/mol or kg-mol-1). However, for historical reasons, the molar mass is almost always expressed in grams per mole (g/mol).

The molecular mass (symbol is mf), or also relative molecular mass or formula weight), is a quantity that indicates how many times the mass of a molecule of a substance is greater than the atomic mass unit.

Its numerical value coincides with that of the molar mass. The molecular mass refers to a single molecule, whereas the molar mass corresponds to one mole (NA = 6.022 · 1023) of molecules.
