Pressure reactors and hydrogenators

For some reactions it is necessary to have in the laboratories systems that allow them to be carried out at medium or high pressures.

Therefore, depending on the required pressure, there are various devices and reactors. Generally, these devices are used to perform hydrogenation reactions.

Normally, the most commonly used apparatus is the Parr shaker hydrogenator. This consists of a pressure-resistant glass flask, which is protected by a metal grid to avoid possible accidents. In addition, it is connected to a hydrogen (gass cylinder) (or gas line) and fitted with a pressure gauge to monitor the pressure. It also has a tilting motor that shakes the flask with the product and the catalyst.
On the other hand, there is the variant of using a reactor (glass, synthetic or metallic) that allows the reaction to be introduced into the flask and agitation is achieved by means of a magnetic stirrer.
